Does Motorola could be the first smartphone with a 200 MP


In September, Samsung announced the first 200-megapixel sensor dedicated to smartphones, and the company’s next flagship, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, is highly unlikely to use this sensor.

The South Korean company is in no rush to launch the world’s first device with a 200-megapixel sensor, and that honor will not go to Xiaomi either. This information comes from the source Ice Universe, which also adds that Xiaomi will be the next to launch a 200-megapixel smartphone, during the second half of 2022. Previously, it was believed that the next Xiaomi 12 series would be the first to be equipped with a 200-megapixel sensor, but new reports claim that the flagship model will use a 50-megapixel main camera instead.

If Xiaomi plans to release a phone with a 200-megapixel sensor in the second half of 2022, Motorola will likely release its 200-megapixel device sometime sooner. It’s unlikely to be the Moto Edge X, which is rumored to be the first device to sport Qualcomm’s next flagship chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and to be equipped with a triple camera with a 50-megapixel main camera.

Motorola has already started teasing the smartphone and seems to believe it will be one of its best smartphones and exceed expectations. Given that the Moto Edge X will be released worldwide in early 2022, it is questionable whether the smartphone with the 200-megapixel sensor we are talking about will be announced in the second quarter of 2022.

If the rumor turns out to be true, this will be the first time that Motorola smartphones have pioneered mobile photography. Motorola smartphones, even newer ones, did not have good cameras in the past.

The Galaxy S23 will be the first from Samsung to have it 

As for Samsung, while the company’s next foldable flagship is said to come with better cameras than the current generation, it’s unlikely to get the 200-megapixel sensor. Instead, the Galaxy S23 will be the company’s first phone to feature a 200-megapixel camera.

Upon its release, the ISOCELL HP1 sensor was considered the most powerful mobile photo sensor ever made. It features 0.64 μm pixels and the new ChameleonCell pixelization technology to produce 50-megapixel images with 1.28 μm pixels or 12.5-megapixel snapshots with 2.56 μm pixels in poorly lit environments. It is also capable of shooting 8K videos at 30 fps with minimal loss in the field of view. It can also record 4K videos at 120 fps and Full HD clips at 240 fps.

Besides ChameleonCell technology, the ISOCELL HP1 also uses a deep learning algorithm called Re-mosaic, which activates when you take a photo in daylight. The algorithm allows the sensor to recreate sharp details, which Samsung says will be difficult to see with the naked eye. Smartphones are going to have an exciting time over the next couple of years.
