The co-founder of OnePlus, Carl Pei, has finally launched the first product under the name of his new brand: Nothing. After long months of teasing, we thus discovered the Nothing Ear 1, in-ear headphones with active noise reduction, but also a monster autonomy of 36 hours. This product is one of the most affordable on the market: € 99.
Nothing launches its first pair of wireless headphones: the Ear 1
After leaving OnePlus, one of its co-founders decided to erect a brand new entity called Nothing. With the takeover of Essential, the last company of Andy Ruby, one of the thinkers behind Android, it was easy to hope for the arrival of a smartphone in the first place. However, the brand seems to want to start with an accessory: a pair of wireless headphones.
After a long teasing campaign, Nothing Ear 1 was revealed to us on July 27, 2021. Let’s talk about design to start the presentation of this product. The headphones benefit first of all from a charging case with a transparent front face allowing the headphones to be seen without having to open it. On the silver rod of the audio devices, we find a red dot for the left earpiece and a white weight for the right. The rest of the headphones feature a white color and an in-ear format. Weight of an earphone: 4.7 grams.
Inside the Nothing Ear 1, we find an 11.6 mm speaker with a graphene membrane, but also three microphones, two of which are for active noise reduction. To control his music or a call, the rods take advantage of touch controls. In terms of autonomy, a charge will allow 5.7 hours of audio listening and 34 hours with the box if the active noise reduction is deactivated. Nothing explains that the autonomy will be reduced by 25% with the feature enabled. To recharge the box, a USB-C cable or a QI wireless charger will do the trick. Lastly, the headphones benefit from a Bluetooth 5.2 connection and support the SBC and AAC audio formats.
The Nothing Ear 1 will be available on the brand’s official website in 45 countries from August 17/2021 for 99 euros.
