Apple’s September 14 keynote kicked off with the presentation of two new iPads. After the iPad 9, the Cupertino company has decided to unveil the iPad mini 6.
iPad mini 6: a miniature iPad Air
Apple introduced its new sixth-generation iPad mini. The design has of course completely changed compared to the model of more than two years ago, with markedly refined borders. The iPad mini 2021 looks like an iPad Air with reduced dimensions. It retrieves the flat slices of the latter, as well as its Touch ID button which disappears from the front panel to migrate to the ignition button, on the upper edge.
In an aluminum case with flat edges, like the iPhone, Apple has integrated an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina screen. This new iteration sees its screen grow somewhat: it goes from 7.9 inches to 8.3 inches, with a maximum brightness of 500 cd / m², True Tone, and anti-reflective treatment.
Another novelty, the tablet’s power supply now goes through a USB-C port, replacing the Lightning port, and is compatible with a 20 W charge.
Apple promises performance worthy of the iPhone 13
On the technical side, Apple integrates the latest SoC A15 Bionic into its tablet, which will also be found on the iPhone 13. Apple announces a 40% jump in CPU performance and 80% for the GPU. The small tablet will also benefit from a 5G version (optional) for improved speeds in mobility. Wi-fi 6 will also be there.
The new generation iPad Mini has a 12-megapixel back sensor with optics opening at f / 1.8, and a True Tone flash. Finally, the second-generation Apple Pencil can be housed on the right of the device.
Four colors will be offered: “pink”, “starlight”, “mauve” or “space gray”. The iPad mini will be sold for 559 euros. It will be available from September 24, pre-orderable now.
